First decide: do you want to golf, or mainly live near golf?
For an active golfer, playing conditions, practice facilities, booking options and variety of courses matter. For a non-golfing partner, reachability, walking, social contacts and amenities can weigh more heavily.
So discuss what each of you wants to do on an ordinary Tuesday. Can one play golf while the other goes out independently? Is one car enough or do you need two? And are you looking for a holiday home or a place to live for months at a time?
A beautiful course cannot repair a poor choice of location. Start with the living environment and then investigate whether the golf on offer adds enough to justify any extra costs or restrictions.
The six locations in one overview
| Golf area | Region | Distinctive starting point | Mainly investigate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Las Colinas | Costa Blanca South | Golf setting with an emphasis on landscape | Distances, sub-area and daily amenities |
| La Manga Club | Murcia / Costa Cálida | Three 18-hole courses and a wider sports offer | Position within the area and access to facilities |
| Lomas de Campoamor | Costa Blanca South | Living around an established golf setting | Exact address, building and relation to coastal amenities |
| Serena Golf | Los Alcázares, Costa Cálida | Golf near a coastal town | The real route to town and sea |
| Lo Romero | Around Pilar de la Horadada | Golf as a base with a separate residential location | Construction phase, reachability and included amenities |
| El Valle | Murcia region | Golf in a more inland setting | Car dependence and use throughout the year |
The regional classification is for orientation. It says nothing about a guaranteed travel time, municipal permit or access to amenities for an individual home.
Las Colinas: judging the landscape and the concrete living zone
Las Colinas has an 18-hole course, par 71, presented on the official website in relation to the surrounding landscape. There are also practice facilities. See the official overview of the golf course for the sporting characteristics.
For a home buyer, what matters most is where the home sits within the area. An apartment by a shared garden gives a different daily feeling from a detached home with its own outdoor space. Look at privacy, orientation and the real distance to the places you use regularly.
My buying advice: put Las Colinas on your shortlist when landscape and peace weigh heavily, but explicitly test how independent you are there without a car. Also ask which facilities belong to the property and which are paid separately. The reputation of a destination is not a contractual right of use.
La Manga Club: more golf variety, but also more to compare
La Manga Club describes three 18-hole courses: North, South and West. That sets its golf offer apart from locations with one course. The destination also offers other sports. The current characteristics are on the official golf page of La Manga Club.
A larger area means looking carefully at the sub-area. Two homes with the same destination label can differ greatly in slopes, walking routes, proximity of amenities and community structure. So do not let yourself be shown only the central facilities.
This area deserves attention when several sports or variety in golf matter. At the same time, investigate whether you will actually use the available facilities. Paid access, booking conditions and any owners' arrangements must be confirmed in writing; do not automatically count them as part of the purchase price.
Lomas de Campoamor: the exact address makes the difference
The official golf club information describes an 18-hole course, par 72, in Orihuela, Alicante. For the sporting characteristics, see Lomas de Campoamor Golf Club.
In property listings, the name Campoamor deserves extra attention. Ask exactly which area and which urbanisation are meant. Lomas de Campoamor, Las Colinas and a location on the coast are not interchangeable concepts. A well-known place name in the listing title does not tell you how far you really are from the beach or amenities.
For buyers this is a location to compare very concretely: building quality, outdoor space, parking, noise and walking options. For apartments, ask about the community and maintenance planning. A well-kept golf landscape says nothing about the financial state of the community your home belongs to.

Serena Golf: investigating the combination with Los Alcázares
Serena Golf is in Los Alcázares and has an 18-hole course. The official information describes water features, practice facilities and a clubhouse, among other things. See the Serena Golf information.
The interesting living question here is how golf and daily life in Los Alcázares come together. Investigate that at street level. A straight-line distance to the sea or centre says little about the walking route, crossings or how easily you do your shopping.
My editorial assessment: include this area when you want to combine golf with life near a coastal town. Check per home how strong that combination really is. For new projects, also ask about remaining construction work in the immediate surroundings and distinguish between existing amenities and future plans.
Lo Romero: do not confuse the home with the golf course
Lo Romero describes an 18-hole course, par 72, with a distinctive island green on the final hole. More information is on the official course page of Lo Romero.
With a home around a golf course it is tempting to project all the qualities of the course onto the house. Investigate separately who manages the communal parts, which amenities really belong to the residential development and how access is arranged.
This location can be interesting when the combination of golf and the Pilar de la Horadada area suits your plans. Above all, test the practical connection with amenities and the coast. For new-build, the payment schedule, completion, finishing and the future immediate surroundings are also important topics. An attractive golf presentation does not replace those checks.
El Valle: choosing inland living deliberately
The regional tourist information of Murcia describes El Valle as a golf course in a desert-like valley landscape, where strategy plays a role in the game. See El Valle at Turismo Región de Murcia.
For a buyer, the inland location is a deliberate living choice. That can fit well when you are looking for a different environment from a busy coastal town. Do investigate how you organise daily shopping, social activities and any medical appointments.
My advice here is emphatically to plan a longer visit. Drive the routes you will actually use and look at the area on an ordinary working day. Ask how the community is used outside holiday periods. A quiet viewing can be pleasant, but it does not yet tell you whether the social rhythm suits you.
