The Hondón Valley
Where silence isn't empty, but full of life.
A different rhythm
reigns here.
The day feels more open.
Silence here isn't emptiness, but presence.
You don't hear constant traffic, but the soft rustling of trees, a distant tractor, a dog barking in the valley.
This is a place that makes itself felt.
This is a place that invites you to slow down.

Half an hour away,
everything changes.
The bustle of the coast gives way to space.
The horizon widens. The air feels purer.
At night, you can still see the stars here.
The seasons are tangible: warm dry summers with cool evenings in the mountains; mild winters, though the wind can have free rein here — a reminder that nature hasn't yet been tamed.
And yet: the sea is close. But life here feels different.
No high-rises.
No urbanisations.
No high-rises. No endless urbanisations.
Just open land, wide skies, and a calm that doesn't feel artificial.
Privacy without isolation.
Freedom without distance.
You don't live on top of each other here. You live next to each other.

Places where people
still know each other.
And then there are the villages. Places where almost everyone knows each other. Where people greet each other in the street. Where the greengrocer still comes to the door with whatever the season brings.
As soon as it gets a bit warmer, the older residents sit outside again. Chairs on the sidewalk. Conversations without haste. A social life that doesn't happen online, but simply in the street.
Every fiesta is a reason to come together. Music on the square. Tables that stay set up longer than planned. Children playing outside until late. Here people help each other when needed — without many words, just because it goes without saying.
There's a village café, Mesón El Retiro, where Marie is in the kitchen. Always fresh, always prepared with care. No long menu, but dishes made with attention. You don't come there just to eat, but to catch up.
Life here is simpler. And therefore richer.
Education that leaves
room for wonder.
The local school is small. Personal.
With its own vegetable garden where children learn where food comes from.
Monthly mountain hikes are part of the programme.
Learning happens not just from books, but by experiencing. By playing. By discovering. By being outside.
An education that leaves room for curiosity.

In the mountains,
you feel time.
The almond blossom in spring.
The dry grass in summer.
The earth craving rain. The smell of wet ground.
The olive harvest in autumn.
You learn to look again. You learn to wait again.
And in that waiting, calm settles in.
Not to be seen.
To be present.
Living inland is balance.
Conscious choices.
Here it's not about being seen, but about being present.
Not about speed, but about rhythm.
Not about possession, but about connection.
The landscape shapes you. Slowly. Gently. Without you noticing.

This is no
accidental place.
This landscape carries a different way of living.
It invites simplicity. Conscious choices. Togetherness.
Here we discovered that freedom doesn't need to be loud.
That community isn't a concept, but a daily reality.
This is the place of Alma del Monte.
And perhaps, the place where your story can continue to grow.
Everything you want to know about the Hondón valley
What does buying a home in the Hondón valley cost?
Inland you get much more for your budget than on the coast. Classic villas on 1,000-2,000m² plots with private pool start around €200,000-€300,000. Large fincas on multiple hectares between €350,000-€600,000. Modern new builds or beautifully renovated properties can climb higher, but remain very accessible compared to Moraira or Jávea. Just ask us for an up-to-date overview.
What is life in the inland like compared to the coast?
Quieter, more spacious and more authentically Spanish. Much larger plots for your budget (1,000m²+ often standard), often with mountain views from your garden. The rhythm is more village-like: local market, morning coffee with neighbours, fiestas. Summers are sunnier and drier than the coast (but equally warm). Winters are slightly cooler in the morning but often equally mild during the day. The coast is 30-45 minutes' drive — usually not needed in daily life.
What facilities are there for international residents?
The Hondón valley has an established international community (~37% foreigners, mostly Belgians, Dutch, British). Supermarkets with international products in Hondón centre and Algorfa. Three international schools within driving distance. Restaurants and cafés with multilingual staff. Local Facebook groups and clubs (golf, tennis, bridge, cooking workshops). Healthcare via the centro de salud + hospitals in Elche and Alicante.
Is the Hondón valley suitable for year-round living?
Yes — the valley is chosen by many residents as a year-round home base. Winters are often 12-17°C and sunny during the day, dropping to around 0°C at night (heating or heat pump is important). Summers are dry and sunny, 30-35°C during the day, cooling nicely at night thanks to the elevation. Springs and autumns are exceptionally long. Humidity is lower than on the coast, which many people find more pleasant.
How far is the coast and the airport from Hondón?
Alicante airport (ALC) is 35-45 minutes via the N-340/AP-7. The coast (Guardamar, Torrevieja, Cartagena direction) is 30-45 minutes' drive. Murcia-Corvera airport (RMU) is slightly further, ~50 minutes. The combination makes Hondón attractive: inland tranquillity, with day beach trips and low-cost flights within easy reach.
What is the difference between Hondón de las Nieves and La Canalosa?
Hondón de las Nieves is the main village with centre, supermarkets, church, square, weekly market — more amenities, more active social life. La Canalosa sits slightly higher in the mountains, is quieter and smaller, with more panoramic views and larger plots. Hondón de los Frailes is a third village in the valley, 5 min from Las Nieves. We show you both so you feel the difference.
